On Thursday, October 22, between 1:00 – 4:00 PM, please make sure to post your photos and messages in support of Ottawa ECEs by doing the following:
Please RSVP below
1. Take a Photo and Write a Message/Add a Frame
Please take a good resolution photo of yourself (and your kids, if you’re comfortable with that), and make it your profile picture with an ECE Appreciation Day frame, with the following steps:
- Go to www.facebook.com/profilepicframes.
- Search for the frame by entering “ECE Appreciation Day” into the search bar to the top left of your profile picture
- Choose the frame you want to use from the results.
- Click Use as Profile Picture
Alternatively, you could just write your message of support in large letters on a piece of white paper, with the loose format of “I love my ECE – they deserve (insert your message of support – see suggestions in the Twitter instructions below)”, and take a photo!
You can either screenshot/screengrab your framed Facebook photo, or simply write your message of support in large letters on a piece of white paper, with the loose format of “I love my ECE – they deserve (insert your message of support – see suggestions in the Twitter instructions below)”, and take a a good resolution photo of yourself (and your kids, if you’re comfortable with that)
Suggested support messages (for what ECEs deserve):
- Paid sick and emergency leave days
- The right to refuse unsafe work without punishment
- Living wages
- Job security
- A say in their own health and safety
- Support for trauma-informed practice
- A strong public childcare system to work in
2. Draft your Facebook and/or Twitter Posts
A. Write a (short) message of support to post alongside the photo. Get creative – here are some suggestions:
I wanted to say thank you to the #ECE’s in my life, who’ve expanded my kid’s horizons so much. They deserve to work in a well-funded universal system with strong protections.
This #ECE Appreciation Day, I want to say that as a parent, I’m in solidarity with the ECEs in my life. Let’s build a child care system in Ottawa that honours their sacrifices during this pandemic
This #ECE Appreciation Day, I want Ottawa to know that ECEs are what makes this city great. Let’s make sure they have all the job protections and security that they need
This has been a rough pandemic – I want to shout out to all the ECEs in my kid’s life, who deserve better as they risk it all to deliver high quality education in awful circumstances
B. IMPORTANT: Make sure to include the hashtag: #613SupportsECEs
This will help us gain momentum and be able to track all the posts!
