I am the president of the board of Early Beginnings Multicultural Child Development Centre of Ottawa-Carleton. We have about 60 kids and 13 staff. We urgently want our staff to be vaccinated given everything they’re doing for our kids. Thanks,
Joel Kom
We have been back to work since JUNE 2020. Our staff are overworked and exhausted. I have been dealing with staff shortages due to mental health, exhaustion, sickness, testing, time off to help family members etc. We cannot continue at this pace. We need help and support, we need to be prioritized as essential. Childhood educators need recognition. We give our all every day for the lives of the children, we are asking for support, we need the support. We need to be vaccinated. Adding cleaning, sanitizing, and hours and responsibilities onto our daily routines has become too much this time during the pandemic.
Garderie Oasis Child Care Centre services the Ottawa Hospital Campus employees who most of them work as front line physicians. We have 20 staff members who have been working very hard since we reopened our doors on July 1st, 2020. Staff continue showing up, most working longer than 9 hour days while putting other families before their own. We need to vaccinate the staff who dedicate their days to ensuring that children are safe during this time. It is time to take care of those who continue offering service to all our young children. Lets show Childcare workers how much we appreciate them. You could not go to work without them.
My daughter is an ECE worker in the city of Ottawa and her centre is located in a designated hot zone and has yet to be able to get vaccinated. This makes no sense at all. Please get these special needs workers vaccinated for their safety and that of the children they care for.
I am a volunteer parent at the Glebe Parents’ Day Care (GPDC), and currently serve as the Chair of the Board of Directors. GPDC is a well-known establishment that has been operating for close to 50 years in the heart of the City. Serving 130 families, GPDC provides child care services across four different sites in Ottawa: The Main Centre, the First Avenue Campus, the Mutchmor Campus, and the Hopewell Campus. Close to 50 FTEs and 15-20 subs work daily to support families and provide high quality child care, while following stringent public health protocols.
Since the start of the pandemic, the work and dedication by the team of staff has been astounding. Frankly, since they also have families and juggle many responsibilities, their work should simply be described as above and beyond. Just like our health care workers, childcare workers are ESSENTIAL, and it is about time we start treating them as such. Prioritising their safety by getting them urgent access to vaccines is crucial. Other measures should follow as the governments realize just how important these people are for the welfare of our society.
Please vaccinate all childcare workers as soon as possible.
Sincerely,
Liz Tanguay
